Spoilers for "The Young and the Restless" for this week suggest a number of controversial and unsavory events to happen. However, in the case of Lily, what she needs to do feels necessary no matter how embarrassing it may be.
Fans may have noticed how Devon is now softening to Hilary, to the point of agreeing to make a baby with her via artificial insemination. Of course, Lily would never tolerate Hilary having a foothold in the Hamilton-Winters clan again. She would do everything in her power to prevent Hilary getting pregnant with Devon's child.
Lily tried the diplomatic approach first, reminding Devon that having a baby with Hilary would be a terrible idea. However, the man would not listen and insists on going through with the plan.
Hilary was actually a bit disappointed when Devon declared that the baby would be conceived via artificial insemination, but she is going to take what she can get. Michael Baldwin finally set the terms of the agreement in stone.
However, Lily still has an ace up her sleeve. It just so happens that she had been listening when the procedure was being discussed. As such, she knows exactly when the procedure will take place.
For Lily, it would be a simple matter of swapping the sperm cells out for another, so that Hilary's child will be denied Devon's paternity. It should be noted that Lily could not just swap the sperm sample with other impotent or inorganic substances because Hilary could just try again if the first procedure fails.
No — Lily had to swap Devon's sample out with actual sperm from another so that Hilary achieves her end goal, but without Devon's paternity as her leverage. As Lily had previous experience in purchasing sample sperm cells, this would be easy for her.
