After more than a decade, urban fantasy roleplaying game "The World Ends with You" is getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch. Titled "The World Ends with You: Final Remix," the remastered edition for the Switch will contain new scenes for both fans old and new.

Aside from that, "The World Ends with You: Final Remix" will also be bringing new controls into play. A rhythm game at heart, "The World Ends with You" relied on the DS's touch screen capabilities for both fun and challenging gameplay. The Switch will keep the touchscreen option available, but will also allow players to play through the game with the Joy-Con controller if they prefer.

Nintendo announced that the game would be coming to the Switch during mini direct presentation on Jan. 11. The information regarding the resmastered edition stated that a new epilogue was added and that it would change how fans looked at the game. Graphics have also been redone to suit the latest generation consoles. No specific date has been given but Nintendo stated the game was slated for a 2018 release.

Set in fictional Shibuya, "The World Ends with You" puts players into the shoes of a young boy named Neku. The game begins with Neku finding himself in a strange place known as The Underground. Other people are there too, and all of them have been given strange pins and have been forced to participate in a strange game. It starts off a little odd, until the more sinister side of the game is finally revealed.

Everyone in The Underground has died. They are participating in the Reaper's Games, and the person who wins, will have the chance to be brought back to life.

Players must pilot Neku through The Underground and help him win the games. Back in 2018, the game's fighting style received praise for its innovation. Players would use both the DS stylus and the microphone to fight their foes and deal damaging combos. How the fighting style will translate to the Joy-Con controllers has yet to be explained by Nintendo or Square Enix.

A video of the Nintendo Direct Mini was uploaded to YouTube's channel on Jan. 11.
