"Game of Thrones" season 6 is on its way to its third episode, delivering shockers in the first two episodes. But many fans still can't still shake off the fact that "The Winds of Winter" is still absent.

But if the rumors are anything to go by, the wait may finally be over. The long-awaited book, the sixth volume in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that spawned the HBO epic, is rumored to be released as early as this month.

George R.R. Martin hasn't talked about "The Winds of Winter" after opening up about the book's delay earlier this year. During that time, however, he expressed intense desire to release the book as soon as he possible.

Even so, the bestselling author still warned fans that apart from filling the pages, he also needs to do rewriting, which he said also takes as much time as stitching the story.

Martin, who has earned a reputation of being a slow writer, has been cutting down on appearances, travels and anything else that will get in the way of completing "The Winds of Winter."

At the moment, Martin has no information to offer about the book's release. There's no information as to how many more pages he needs to fill or how far along he is.

As fans wait, Martin was generous enough to give fans something to think about as they wait for "The Winds of Winter." Earlier this year, he revealed that there will be a big twist involving a character killed off in "Game of Thrones."

This had many believing that this character might end up playing an important role in the rest of Martin's saga. According to rumors, this person could be Stannis Baratheon, who is allegedly being poised to be the victor in the Winterfell battle, only to be killed by White Walkers.

As it always is with rumors, fans are advised to take this report with a grain of salt. But it would certainly be mind-blowing to see "The Winds of Winter" in the flesh this May.
