'The Voice' season 9 results to be announced Wednesday

For the first time, the fate of the artists who will move on and earn a spot at the Top 12 of "The Voice" will lie in the hands of the viewers this season.

The artists from Team Adam and Team Gwen kicked off the first live playoff performances thihs week for the ninth season of NBC's hit reality competition as they vie to earn a slot at the Top 12, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Each member of the teams took the stage to let the viewers know that they are deserving to stay in the singing reality competition for a chance of being crowned as the winner of "The Voice" season 9.

But aside from letting the viewers pick the artists that stood out during Tuesday's live performance night, "The Voice" also introduced a new twist this season where the coaches can bring back some of their previously eliminated artists to perform in the Live Playoffs with the remaining 20 contestants to get another shot in the singing competition.

Team Adam's artists were all pumped up as they sang their hearts out during their performances. Former country singer Blaine Mitchell sang INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart," while rish rocker Keith Semple performed Mr. Big's "To Be With You." Amy Vachal performed "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra and Shelby Brown sang "You're No Good" by Wilson Phillips, while Jordan Smith sang "Halo" by Beyoncé.

Team Adam's comeback artist Chance Peña performed "Barton Hollow" by The Civil Wars to earn the rights to get back to the competition.

For Team Gwen, Regina Love perfomed Adele's latest hit single "Hello," while Korin Bukowski had a moving performance with Sarah McLachlan's iconic song "Adia." Jeffery Austin sang "Say You Love Me" by Jessie Ware and Braiden Sunshine performed "Everything I Own" by Red and Viktor Király sang "All Around The World" by Lisa Stansfield.

Meanwhile, Team Gwen's comeback artist Ellie Lawrence performed her own rendition of Elle King's "Ex's & Oh's."

Voting for Team Adam and Team Gwen's artists began immediately after the show and will last until 12 p.m. ET Wednesday night before Carson Daly announces who made the Top 12.
