While Mystic Falls is enveloped with uncertainty after Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) started being controlled by the evil vault creature, it seems like Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) can still find time for romance in the eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries."

King revealed in an interview with TVLine that the relationship between her character and Stefan will remain solid at the beginning of the season, just like where it left off in season 7.

While fans could expect to see several steamy scenes involving the two, King also teased that the couple could still experience several challenges along the way. "They have to balance some pretty adult things, in terms of Caroline and Alaric (Matt Davis) co-parenting these children and having this supernatural blended family," the actress said.

King also mentioned that Stefan will focus on saving his brother, Damon, and he will have the tendency to prioritize Damon. "That's going to be a really big thing for this couple," the actress also stated.

Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec talked about Damon and Enzo's struggles while under the control of the show's biggest villain to date in an interview with TV Guide. According to Plec, the premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will reveal how both characters turn into the dark version of themselves, and the hardships they need to pull through in order to fight their way out of the situation.

The executive producer also teased that both Damon and Enzo will have to deal with a psychological fallout of their actions while under the influence of the new villain.

"Can you make amends for things you've done? Can you be forgiven? Are you worth forgiving? And what do you have to do to be the kind of person that deserves to live in spite of terrible things you might have done?" these are the questions that the characters will ask themselves according to Plec.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres on The CW on Friday, Oct. 21.
