Actor Ian Somerhalder's directorial debut for "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 will be aired next week, showing an episode full of exhilarating events for the residents of Mystic Falls.
In episode 16 titled "The Downward Spiral," Caroline's (Candice Accola) way of dealing with her mother's recent death makes her friends go on a risky chase to save her. The official synopsis for the episode reads:
"After shutting off her humanity following the death of her mother, Caroline gives her friends an unexpected ultimatum. Not knowing how to handle the new Caroline, Stefan's (Paul Wesley) attempt to intervene sets off a dangerous chain of events, leaving him and Elena (Nina Dobrev) in a race against the clock."
Also, Somerhalder's character Damon faces a struggle of his own after learning several details about the prison world from Kai (Chris Wood). He discovers some startling news involving his and Stefan's mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching). Will this affect Damon's outlook about his mother?
On the other hand, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) continues to have a growing curiosity about the Salvatore brothers' great-niece Sarah Salvatore (guest star Tristan Mays), while Bonnie (Kat Graham) needs more time to adjust after returning to the present dimension.
In an article posted by Travelers Today, Somerhalder talked about his experience as a director. The actor shared how he enjoyed helming the episode during an interview at the Wizard World's Cleveland Comic Con.
"I had an incredible story that Brian Young and Caroline Dries wrote. And literally a group of my — my cast — my brothers and sisters, everyone had my back. It was the coolest environment to learn in, and thank you Warner Bros for the couple million bucks to spend really creating an incredible 42 minutes of television. It was my favorite professional experience ever," the actor said.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 episode 16 will air on March 12 on The CW.
