When "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 returns, Damon will also be brought back to life. The midseason premiere titled "Hell Is Other People" sees the elder Salvatore brother finally getting his soul back and it's all thanks to Bonnie.

In a clip for the upcoming installment, Bonnie uses a spell to break Damon out of the Phoenix Stone and back into reality. It turns out he was out for the count for months, to his surprise. While he was out, Damon was forced to relive his hellish experiences inside the stone.

Damon was coerced to remember his nightmarish time in Civil War and all other terrifying memories he certainly would not want to experience again. In order to save himself, he will have to go through each of them. Thankfully, as seen in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 promo, Bonnie manages to extract him.

Meanwhile, it is unclear how Stefan, whose soul was also forced into the Phoenix Stone, is holding up. He will, however, be a major presence in the episodes to come especially the show's crossover with "The Originals."

"The crossover was born out of Stefan needing a place to escape," executive producer Julie Plec told TV Line. "He's on the run. He needs to go somewhere where magic can't find him, and we realized he can go to New Orleans where there's that bar where magic doesn't work," he added.

Plec also revealed that, originally, Klaus was supposed to be the one to make an appearance in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7. This was the plan until the character's essayer Joseph Morgan suggested although he'd love to do it, he requested it to be done in "The Originals" instead.

As fans of the show know very well, things haven't been great between the two because of their feelings for Caroline. But the direction of their encounter will not at all be governed by that.

"They actually have a surprisingly civil and honest conversation about love — what it means and the sacrifices that you have to make in the name of it," Plec explained.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 returns Jan. 29 on CW.
