Will Caroline (Candice King) escape the torture plotted by the heretics in the next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7?

Based on the trailer of the episode titled "Never Let Me Go," Caroline is in danger in the hands of Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) mother Lily, who will do everything that she can in order to make her sons pay for breaking the deal that they made in Mystic Falls.

It can be seen in the trailer that one of the Heretics who follows the orders of the Salvatore matriarch tortures Caroline with the use of an eye liner.

Meanwhile, Damon will try to fix the damage that led to the death of Malcolm (Justice Leak) in order to save his brother's special friend, and try to mend his broken relationship with their mother. But before Damon saves Caroline, she will allegedly learn something about Stefan's past, which will allegedly affect the budding romantic relationship between the former best friends.

The grieving Alaric (Matt Davis) will turn to Bonnie (Kat Graham) for help in dealing with the mysterious and possibly harmful artifact that he discovered.

Elsewhere, series showrunner Julie Plec addressed Elena's obvious presence in the premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 even if actress Nina Dobrev no longer appears in the series.

In a recent interview with TV Line, Plec said Elena will always be present in the hearts of those who love her in Mystic Falls, but the series will not dwell on her character in all the episodes this season.

"She's always going to be present, emotionally and spiritually, but we won't spend every episode going down that path about how much Damon misses her, or how different the world is without her. But she will be very much a part of the narrative, the existence of her, specifically as it relates to Damon's journey and what he has to do to survive the next 22,000 days," the series showrunner said.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 2 airs Thursday, Oct. 15, on The CW.
