Comic series "The Umbrella Academy" is getting a TV series adaptation.

Netflix picked up "The Umbrella Academy" and is reportedly going to create a 10 episode TV series based on the alternate history comic book by Gerard Way. While the show isn't going to air for some time, the cast members are already being picked out.

According to news websites Nerdist and Empire Online, Ellen Page will be one of the stars of the upcoming TV series. Page will reportedly be playing the role of super-powered Vanya Hargreeves.

The series will also reportedly be following the "Apocalypse Suit" story arc which is set after the children have grown up.

"The Umbrella Academy" comic books take place in an alternate reality. John F. Kennedy was never assassinated and the year is 1977. The story follows a group of superheroes. After a strange event 43 super powered babies are born into the world, only seven survive and are adopted by an alien.

The surviving children are then turned into a team of superheroes and are tasked to save the world from an entity known as The Umbrella Academy. The stories take place during this event and afterward when the children have disbanded and the alien who has adopted them has already died.

The comic book contains three volumes Apocalypse Suit, Dallas, and Hotel Oblivion. Alongside the comics were several short stories.

Plans for a movie were originally in the works, but not much has been said about it.

On Jul 7. 2015, it was revealed that instead of doing a film, "The Umbrella Academy" would be turned into a TV series. It was greenlit by Netflix in 2017 and will hopefully be included in the 2018 premiere lineup. Reportedly, Gerard Way will be playing a huge part in the TV series adaptation and will be helping out as an executive producer.
