With a new upcoming movie due for release this year and a TV adaptation set to start productions this April 2018 is an exciting year for "The Purge" fans. But the fun does not stop there, as another bonus avid fans of the murderous franchise have been treated to is the announcement of "The Purge" TV series cast leads in the form of Jessica Garza and Gabriel Chavarria.

According to reports, Garza, notable for her work in "Six," and Chavarria, well-known for his performances in "War of the Planet of the Apes" and "East Los High," have signed in to play the female and male leads in Syfy and USA Network's TV adaptation of the "The Purge" film series.

Earlier announcements reveal that the TV series will be focusing on the events that transpired before the 12-hour legalized massacre that is the "Purge Night.'

In an interview with Den of Geek, producer of the film franchise Jason Blum shared that he and his team will be exploring events beyond "Purge Night."

"We're working on kind of exploring what it's like to live the rest of the year in a world where you can kill someone on a certain day of the year. It definitely makes you think twice if you're driving and you give someone the finger or something like that," Blum shared.

Chavarria will go on to play a U.S Marine named Miguel -- who returns to his hometown during "Purge Night" to rescue his little sister and defend his family from the onslaught of people wanting to cleanse themselves through madness and murder.

Meanwhile, Garza will be playing a woman named Penelope -- who joins a Purge-honoring group, pledging herself as a sacrifice for Purging. However, drastic events transpire and she finds herself face-to-face with the realities of "Purge Night."

The production for the TV series will start in April, and it is set for a release this year; however, no specific date has been announced.

Besides this intended TV crossover, "The Purge" is currently in its fourth installment -- "The First Purge." A prequel movie aims to detail how the murderous 12-hour yearly ritual came about in the fictitious American society. The movie is set for a release on July 4 of this year.
