The move "The Mummy" came to theaters in June, and while set in the same universe, the side-scrolling shooter "The Mummy Demastered" will not follow the movie's protagonist, Nick Morton. Instead, it will follow the adventures of an unnamed soldier as he fights through wave of monsters to stop Princess Ahmanet from unleashing the God set.

The teaser trailer was first released by developer Wayforward on Sept. 25.

Featuring a beautiful pixelated world, old school graphics, and an entire slew of terrifying monsters out to end the protagonist's life, fans of Metroid and old Nintendo Entertainment Systems games will be in for a 1990's styled nostalgia-fueled ride.

While not much has been revealed about the gameplay aspects of "The Mummy Demastered" yet, an interview between Polygon and Wayforward has given excited fans a closer look at the upcoming game's interesting mechanics, specifically the death mechanics.

Players will have access to unlimited marines, but each time a player character dies, it will be raised back to life by Princess Ahmanet and turned into one of her undead minions. The undead player character will retain all their upgrades and all the weapons and items players had equipped before they died.

The player will then start off with a new character and eventually bump into their old character. They will have a chance to face off against their now undead player character and retake their equipment by force.

Wayforward has developed several mobile games, and in this interview with Polygon mentioned that they wanted to do something bigger. Being fans of "Shovel Knight" and games with an old school type of aesthetic, they wanted to take pieces of games like Castlevania, Contra, and Metroid and mesh them together to create something brand new that works. The result of this is the upcoming game "The Muddy Demastered."

"The Mummy Demastered" will be coming to the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Oct. 24.
