'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U news: Linkle could appear

While Nintendo remains mum about the release date of "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U, the video game entertainment company talked about a possible addition to the game in a recent interview.

In an email interview with IGN, Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that Linkle could possibly appear in the upcoming "The Legend of Zelda" video game on Wii U.

Linkle is one of the playable characters featured in "The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors Legends," which is scheduled to come out on the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. The character can also be unlocked in the Wii U version of the game.

According to Aonuma, Linkle was supposed to be introduced as Link's sister. But they decided to scrap the idea since it will be a conflict with the concept of the character named Aryll from "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker."

Instead of Link's younger sister, Linkle will instead debut on "The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors Legends" as a girl with great heroic aspirations. This will allegedly serve as a completely unique background for the long-running game franchise.

"It may feel a little different from other titles in the franchise, but she doesn't feel out of place at all in the world of the Zelda games," the game producer added.

Aonuma also explained that he had an opportunity to offer feedback on Linkle during the character's development. But he mentioned that using a crossbow similar to the one that they developed for the spinoff game "Link's Crossbow Training" can be experienced in future installments of the game.

"The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors Legends" will be released on Nintendo 3DS sometime in 2016. "The Legend of Zelda" on Wii U is also expected to come out around the same time.
