"The Leftovers" season 3 will wrap up the hit HBO television series, a decision made by series creator Damon Lindelof. This opens the possibility for an apocalyptic ending, a premise that Lindelof is actually shooting for.
"We started thinking a lot about apocalyptic thinking, and how people are going to behave if they think the world is going to end," Lindelof said during a video chat with Gold Derby.
"If the audience knows that the show is ending, there's actually an opportunity for us to play with the idea that the world is going to end. I think there's a way to do the apocalypse that we haven't quite seen before," the man behind "The Leftovers" went on to say.
This means that "The Leftover" season 3 might not end in a way favorable to Kevin and his crew. Their chances of survival were already slim after Guilty Remnant destroyed Jarden.
"The Leftovers" season 3 is currently in production. For the final season, the cast and crew are heading to Australia which will be both the filming location and the setting of the new season.
Almost everyone will be back to reprise their role including every breathing member of the Murphy family. However, Ann Dowd is not reported to be going down under to reprise her role as Patti Levin, which makes sense plot-wise.
The central purpose of Dowd's character was to mess with Kevin's mind. With Justin Theroux's character now cured of his hallucinations in the second season of "The Leftovers," Patti might not get any more chance to star in Kevin's nightmares.
Despite being demoted from series regular, Dowd is expected to make guest appearances in "The Leftovers" season 3. Meanwhile, Scott Glenn, who plays the role of Kevin Garvey Sr., was promoted to series regular.
It comes as a little surprise since he is expected to usher his son's family to Australia, where he has stayed in search of answers. The younger Kevin's abilities allegedly take root in the country as well.
"The Leftovers" season 3 has no premiere date yet.
