Filming is currently underway for the third and final season of "The Leftovers," and speculations claim that viewers should prepare to see Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) cross over to the dark side.

In the second season finale, Kevin was seen struggling to avoid death and find his way out of the Purgatory to be reunited with his family after being separated by the Sudden Departure. But with all the hardships that he has been through while being far away from his loved ones, will the audience find him joining the mysterious Guilty Remnants cult that his wife, Laurie (Amy Brenneman), is a part of?

Speaking with Variety, series creator Damon Lindelof discussed whether Kevin's internal struggles will push him to give in to the darkness. According to Lindelof, most of the fans of the show are not keen on seeing too much misery in the character without a redemption in the end.

"Audiences crave a level of depth and darkness, but this kind of internal darkness -- deep, emotional darkness -- doesn't settle with audiences," the series creator said. "It's read as depression and despair. Audiences don't want to see characters wallowing in misery -- they want to see characters trying to dig themselves out of holes. They want people who are vying for inner peace; trying to get out of the tunnel. They want to see a light at the end of the tunnel - not extinguishing a light."

Meanwhile, actress Carrie Coon posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Twitter where her character Nora is seen cuddling with a fully-bearded Kevin. The image was taken while the series was filming season 3 episodes in Australia.

Based on the photo, Kevin's injuries from the season 2 finale will be completely healed. However, it can be noticed in the photo that Nora's arm is wrapped in a bandage. Does it mean that she will be injured in the upcoming season?

At the moment, HBO is still mum about the official release date of "The Leftovers" season 3. But the series is rumored to return to the network in 2017.
