The fans have not heard from Naughty Dog for quite some time regarding the current status of the much-awaited video game sequel "The Last of Us Part 2." Although, the game studio could spill some interesting details in the coming days as it is one of the expected participants of this year's Games Developers Conference (GDC). There are also reports suggesting that the title will be released as early as this year, something that only Naughty Dog can confirm or deny.

As reported by Daily Star, Naughty Dog is set to attend the GDC 2018 this coming week, in which the audience is likely to hear about the developer's techniques in crafting their popular game titles, most especially the upcoming "The Last of Us Part 2." Although, there is a chance that Naughty Dog will try to evade questions from the audience that may spill the surprises in "TLOU2." While the first few trailers for the sequel paint a picture of how the new storyline will play out, the fans are also left with more questions.

Still, Naughty Dog could use "The Last of Us Part 2" during its talks, which will be mainly focused on the general game development technques rather than specific contents of the game title itself. Aside from the GDC, the studio is also expected to appear at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2018 in June, which has more chances to reveal new gameplay details, as well as a brand new trailer.

In other news, a leaked game listing from Sony Sweden Facebook page suggests that Naughty Dog could be trying to catch the fans by surprise with an earlier release date of "The Last of Us Part 2." The listing shows that the game will arrive in PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018. There are no hints from Naughty Dog that it is about to drop its new game title soon, thus making some people doubt about the information. Given that the production of the game is still ongoing, it is believed that "The Last of Us Part 2" would take another year or two before being launched.

Another thing to keep in mind is that game listing usually puts a placeholder on huge titles that do not have a confirmed release date yet. In the case of "The Last of Us 2," the Sony Sweden Facebook page could have only put the 2018 release date as a placeholder without having firsthand knowledge from Naughty Dog.
