'The Last of Us 2' release date: Naughty Dog stays quiet on title at E3

"The Last of Us 2" will not be at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3, according to industry insider Shinobi, which claims that developer Naughty Dog will focus on a "big coming out party for 'God of War 4.'"

There have been rumors about "God of War 4" playing with Norse mythology with Kratos in the game, and it looks like all that will be showcased on the convention instead of "The Last of Us" sequel.

This isn't much of a surprise since game director Neil Druckmann already said in the past that there's only "50/50" chance that "The Last of Us 2" will be released.

However, fans had reason to believe the game is coming when they spotted an easter egg for the game in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," Naughty Dog's latest outing. There was a poster there that read "The Last of Us: American Daughters."

Last year during the MetroCon (via Gamerant), voice actor Nolan North referred to the original game as "the first 'The Last of Us,'" prompting gamers to expect a sequel. "Uh, did I say the first 'The Last of Us?'" he mused.

"The Last of Us 2," whose predecessor was released to critical acclaim in 2014, is one of the most anticipated games for the E3. However, it looks like Naughty Dog isn't ready to talk about the game just yet.

Despite this, there are already a lot of talks regarding "The Last of Us 2." It is expected that instead of Joel, Ellie will be the protagonist of the game. Her combat skills were expected to be explored in the game.

Although an E3 reveal is unlikely, rumor has it that Naughty Dog will at least share information or a tease about "The Last of Us 2" or at least make it official.

For now though, the developer is believed to focus its attention on its post-launch plans for "Uncharted 4."
