In the season finale of "The Fosters" season 3, Callie (Maia Mitchell) will be deeply devastated after a tragic loss.

In the penultimate episode, Callie's adoptive mother Steph (Teri Polo) responded to a domestic-violence report. But when she reached the reported house, she discovered that Jack (Tanner Buchanan) was already dead.

Callie and her adoptive brother Jude met Jack at a foster youth event. He had a brief moment with Jude when they shared a kiss, but that was not the only thing that connected him to the siblings as his foster father was Jim Pearson (Colby French), the last foster parent of Callie and Jude before they went to the Foster-Adams household.

In an interview with TVGuide, series creator Brad Bredeweg revealed that Jack's death will be hard for the siblings. But Callie and Jude will have different approaches to dealing with the loss.

Mitchell said in the same report that Callie will be furious with the entire foster system because of the death of her friend.

"This is the straw that breaks the camel's back, and you're really going to see her react and get quite fired up. You're going to see her make some choices and some moves," the actress explained. "She's fueled by this rage that she feels about the system and privatization as well. The curtains are back on [privatization] and she sees it for what it is."

On the other hand, Jude will be much calmer yet more emotionally broken because of the recent events in his life.

"Jude, who is already heartbroken and crushed by [his breakup] with Connor [Gavin MacIntosh], will begin to crumble," the series creator revealed. "The family will have to rally around him and help him recover from everything that's happened."

The synopsis for the season 3 finale also revealed that Mariana's (Cierra Ramirez) guilt about kissing Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) intensifies after her boyfriend Nick (Louis Hunter) gave her an expensive gift, while Brandon (David Lambert) tells his mothers that his new love interest Cortney (Denyse Tontz) already has a child.
