'The Following' season 4 renewal? Fans still hope to get season 4 despite cancellation

Is it really goodbye for Kevin Bacon's character Ryan Hardy in FOX's "The Following"? fox.com/the-following/

Despite its cancellation, FOX's police procedural thriller "The Following" will not say goodbye without putting on a good show. The series finale of the hit psychological thriller kept to its tradition of providing nerve-racking episodes each week. This time, one of the major characters met their untimely end.

The two-hour episode featured Ryan Hardy's (Kevin Bacon) last struggle against the killers trained by Dr. Arthur Strauss (Gregg Henry). In the said special episode, Theo Noble's (Michael Ealy) world became smaller when the FBI continued to zone in on him, and an unexpected mole was revealed to be betraying them all along.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

The FBI hunt for Theo continues and the stakes are higher than ever as some of their own come under attack. As suspicions rise, alliances are shaken and no one is safe in the harrowing final heart-stopping moments on the all-new, special two-hour "Dead or Alive/The Reckoning" Season Finale episode."

Because of the explosive series finale, a major bloodbath happened in pursuit of Theo. One of the casualties was Daisy Locke (Ruth Kearney), who was surprisingly working for Theo. She almost killed FBI Agent Gina Mendez (Valerie Cruz) and her children. But Gina and the kids managed to escape and Daisy was shot by Detective Max Hardy (Jessica Stroup).

But Ryan was not out of danger yet because of Theo, who was bent on killing him. In a very dramatic ending, Ryan was shot by Theo while Gwen (Zuleikha Robinson) left him a message in his voicemail, with the heartbeat of their baby on record.

A lot of fans were not happy to hear that "The Following" will not return for a fourth season, but many are still hoping that the show will be picked up by another TV network or a streaming service provider like Hulu, just like what happened to "The Mindy Project." However, there are still no announcements about the show at the moment.
