Director, notorious comic book fanatic and famous geek culture expert Kevin Smith was tapped to helm an episode of "The Flash" season 2. The collaboration was announced during the Television Critics Association Press Tour.

It is unclear which episode the "Mallrats" director will helm or if this stint could potentially lead to more directing gigs for Smith on the show. Having him on board, however, was not much of a stretch for him or the network, as per executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

"I literally got a phone call from his agent saying that Kevin Smith's favorite show is 'The Flash,' and if was there an episode for him, and the answer was yes. It was really that simple. I didn't know him personally, I've just been such a huge fan of his work," the EP told Entertainment Weekly.

"Knowing what a fan he is, and knowing the scrutiny he's going to be under, I know he's going to bring it to his fullest, and I'm just so excited," Kreisberg added.

Fans of the series and followers of Smith couldn't be more thrilled about Smith's "The Flash" season 2 stint.

Not too long ago, "The Flash" lead star Grant Gustin showed some love for Smith after watching a video of the director crying his eyes out watching the season one finale.

"This just made my day," the actor tweeted, providing a link to the video.

Meanwhile, Kreisberg noted that while Smith is on board "The Flash" season 2, it does not mean his good friend and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Mark Hamill will be back as Trickster. The character Hamill played teamed up with Weather Wizard to take on the scarlet speedster in the midseason finale.

If there's a new baddie that will come around, it won't be the madman but Grodd the gorilla, who was briefly an adversary of Team Flash in the first season and in "The Flash" season 2. He ended up in Earth-2.

Kreisberg likened Grodd's villainous presence in the series to that of "Arrow's" Ra's Al Ghul, the big bad from Nanda Parbat who Oliver had to deal with for three seasons.

"So, it's a long-term thing," the EP revealed via Comic Book Movie.

"The Flash" season 2 returns Jan. 19 on The CW with "Potential Energy."
