"The Flash" may not be back on the small screen for a while, but that does not mean that fans of the hit action-adventure superhero series will be left in the dark on what's next for Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash.

In the recently concluded midseason finale, viewers saw how the relationship between former best friends Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) turned awkward after he found out that she and Eddie (Rick Cosnett) are moving in together. And in the upcoming episodes of the series, which will start airing this January, things will turn worse for the two.

"It gets rougher. It gets worse before it gets better. But if you know anything about Barry and Iris, they just have a relationship that will, I feel like, stand the test of time," Patton told The Wrap.

Iris already knows that Barry is in love with her, but she is having trouble processing that fact since she and Eddie are already an item. But the fact remains that she is all bent to find out who The Flash is after Barry was brainwashed by a metahuman to hurt her boyfriend.

But when Patton was asked whether her character will find out that Barry and The Flash are one and the same, Patton simply said, "I want to know that, but I don't write the show. I just show up to set."

Meanwhile, speculations are going around about the possible return of Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) in the show, and that he will be accompanied by Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) this time. Their presence can be a threat to Barry and the rest of the residents of Central City, but it could be more harmful for Dr. Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker).

"The Flash" will return for its 10th episode titled "Revenge of the Rogues" on Jan. 20, 2015.
