Guest star Ian Garvey has been causing a lot of problems lately as Ian Garvey in "The Blacklist" season 5, and the quest to stop the villain has already taken a toll on Liz (Megan Boone) and Red's (James Spader) relationship. In the upcoming episode 18, Liz will do things her own way in order to foil Garvey's syndicate, while Red must do some damage control after losing Liz's trust.

Liz and Red have acted as partners in dealing with numerous cases over the years, and it is just common for the two to have some sort of misunderstandings along the way. However, the recent blow to their relationship came as Red's own way of taking down Garvey compromised Liz's operation. With this, Liz has finally learned not to trust Red ever again.

"In an attempt to apply pressure to Ian Garvey (guest star Jonny Coyne), Red (James Spader) and the Task Force head to Paris to track down a prominent heroin supplier for the Nash Syndicate. Distrustful of Red's agenda, Liz (Megan Boone) takes her own path in going after Garvey," the synopsis for episode 18 states. "The Blacklist" season 5 has been focused on Garvey's connection with the Nash Syndicate, but there will be a sudden turn of events in this week's episode as Liz and Red will take different steps to bust Garvey's illegal activities once and for all.

To recap the previous episode, Liz learned that Red was the one responsible for the nabbing of an informant that could help her build a strong case against Garvey. It looks like Liz has grown totally frustrated of Red's reckless actions, and now it will be difficult for Red to gain Liz's trust once again as the latter felt betrayed by him.

In spite of Liz's growing suspicion, Red is just as determined to catch Garvey's syndicate, but his own rules in playing the game has led the two to work on opposite sides. While Liz still believes that they could still bring down Garvey by using the law, Red is willing to do more drastic steps in "The Blacklist" season 5. Being a criminal mastermind will help Red to be one step ahead of Garvey, although this will further strain his relationship with Liz.

"The Blacklist" season 5 episode 18 will air this Wednesday, April 11 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
