'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers: Alexander Kirk is the subject of a cliffhanger

Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) will be a prominent presence in "The Blacklist" season 4. Claiming to be Liz's (Megan Boone) father, he appears to be up to no good.

On whether or not Kirk will be evil enough to be the big bad in "The Blacklist" season 4, executive producer John Eisendrath told Entertainment Weekly that this very question will be the "cliffhanger" for next season.

Eisendrath said that in "The Blacklist" season 4, it will be a question of "who really is this person, what his agenda [is] and what is going to happen to Liz."

"We're left with Red and everyone aware of the fact that Liz is alive, and she's also been abducted," the EP went on to say. It was Kirk who kidnapped his supposed daughter, blowing her cover.

Kirk claims to be the father of Liz, something that is impossible to believe right now since she knows it was her who shot her father dead in an effort to save her mom.

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boone said that she does not think her character trusts Kirk. "He took away her family and possibly the anonymity she tried to gain by faking her death," the actress explained.

Kirk is known to have "deep connection" with Red, which will come to unfold in "The Blacklist" season 4. Eisendrath and co-executive producer Jon Bokenkamp have already said before that Kirk will provide answers as to how Red (James Spader) and Liz are related and why the former is so adamant of protecting the latter no matter what it costs.

The EPs, however, said that Liz has a reason to trust Kirk. The mystery is why, if he really is her father, Kirk just popped up now after all these years. "The Blacklist" season 4 should shed some light on that.

He certainly does not come as a fatherly figure, getting off the wrong foot with her daughter by kicking off the father-daughter reunion with kidnapping.

"The Blacklist" season 4 is expected to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 22 on NBC.
