What fans can look forward to in the new season of Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory season 8 CBS

Season 8 of "The Big Bang Theory" is coming to a close, which means that fans are already looking forward to knowing what's in store for them when the series returns next season. But since details about season 9 are still very scarce, fans are just basing their speculations on the outcome of the season 8 finale.

According to series showrunner Steven Molaro in his recent interview with THR, the finale episode titled "The Commitment Determination" will revolve around the events during the fifth anniversary of Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Amy Fowler's (Mayim Bialik) meeting. It seems like Amy is not happy with the slow pace of their relationship.

"Sheldon is getting a face full of Amy," Molaro said. "She really starts pushing back and [Sheldon's] got relationships on his mind because of that."

Sheldon reportedly starts asking Leonard (Johnny Galecki) about his relationship with Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), since they have been engaged for more than a year but they still have not chosen the date of their wedding. This also prompts Leonard and Penny to think about the progress of their own relationship.

The relationships of the rest of the cast are also going to be featured in the finale episode. Raj (Kunal Nayyar) contemplates his relationship with Emily (Laura Spencer) when he realizes that they are not the best match for each other. Raj might have to break up with her, but he seems to be having a hard time doing it.

On the other hand, Howard (Simon Helberg) and his wife Bernadette (Melissa Raunch) are still coping with their life in Mrs. Wolowitz's old apartment with their new roommate Stuart (Kevin Sussman).

The season finale of "The Big Bang Theory" season 8 will air on Thursday, May 7, while the ninth season of CBS' long-running sitcom will start filming soon.
