The Vikings-themed tactical role-playing game "The Banner Saga" will finally have its highly-anticipated sequel come 2015, game developer Stoic announced.

During the first ever The Game Awards held in Las Vegas on Friday, independent game developer Stoic confirmed that they will release "The Banner Saga 2" to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015. The three-man gaming company mentioned that the sequel to the critically-acclaimed tactical role-playing game will take off after the events that happened during its first installment.

"The critical reception and widespread fan appreciation for The Banner Saga is overwhelming and humbling," the indie gaming company's co-owner and resident art director Arnie Jorgensen shared, "and has the team at Stoic dedicated to delivering a fantastic sequel. We couldn't be more excited."

"The Banner Saga" is loosely inspired by other tactical games like Sega's "Shining Force" and Square's "Final Fantasy Tactics," wherein the player has the chance to take charge of the game by creating all the characters and adding their capabilities.

In a press release distributed by Gamasutra, the game developer said:

"For The Banner Saga 2, Stoic will continue the legacy and story of The Banner Saga, an epic experience for PC, home consoles and mobile that was recently confirmed as an upcoming release for PlayStation Vita. Featuring stunning 2D animation and art, a unique tactical combat system and a cast of unforgettable characters, the original game earned several awards and nominations ... "

The game was heralded as the Best Video Game at the 2014 Geekie Awards. At the 2014 Independent Game Festival, it was a finalist for the Excellence in Visual Arts category, and it was given honorable mentions in the Excellence in Design and Excellence in Audio categories.

Meanwhile, the game developer also announced that the PlayStation 4 edition of the first installment of "The Banner Saga" will be released in the first quarter of 2015. The rollout of the Xbox One edition, on the other hand, is still undisclosed.

No exact release date and other important details about the rumored sequel of the tactical role-playing game has been announced as of the moment.
