The impact of Lexa's (Alycia Debnam-Carey) death can still be felt in the upcoming episode of "The 100" season 3.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Jason Rothenberg revealed that Clarke (Eliza Taylor) will find it hard to deal with the unexpected death of her lover in the hands of their own people.

"Clarke is experiencing the profound loss of someone she loved, and she'll carry that loss with her forever," the executive producer said. "My sincerest hope is that any of our fans who saw a part of themselves in the relationship between Clarke and Lexa can take some small comfort in knowing that their love was beautiful and real."

Clarke lost a lot of people to begin with. But Lexa's death will have a big impact on her because they shared a lot of struggles together as leaders of their people as well as a deep love for each other.

But Rothenberg explained that they had to write off Lexa from the story for "practical (an actress was leaving the show), creative (it's a story about reincarnation) and thematic (it's a show about survival)" reasons.

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the upcoming episode, titled "Stealing Fire," reads:

"Clarke discovers a shocking truth, and Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) is forced to make a decision that could have devastating consequences. Meanwhile, Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) and Abby (Paige Turco) share a moment."

The episode will also reveal that Bellamy (Bob Morley) will contemplate saving Kane from the death row after Pike (Michael Beach) convicted him of treachery.

Meanwhile, Rothenberg told TV Insider that they are planning more explosive surprises this season.

"I don't think I should get into what that is yet, but I think it's something that people will be excited to see," the executive producer said during the WonderCon earlier this month. "With this show it's always difficult because we try to design the experience to be as surprising as possible."

"The 100" season 3 returns on The CW on Thursday, March 31.
