New details about the development of "Tekken X Street Fighter" have come to light. While the fighting game crossover has been off the radar ever since it was announced in 2010, it was revealed that the much-awaited title is still on Bandai Namco's agenda.
"Tekken 7" senior game designer Michael Murray has confirmed in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK (put online by PSU) that the highly anticipated title will push through.
"It's still in development, but as far as a release window we haven't really decided on that," Murray said.
This is enough confirmation that Bandai hasn't let go of the "Tekken X Street Fighter" project. Fans were starting to lose sleep about the fighting game's launch when the publisher became busy putting out other titles.
The fact that no details about the "Tekken" and "Street Fighter" amalgamation have emerged further gave them the impression that the crossover title has been scrapped altogether. Murray's remark should do a good job dousing those worries.
At the moment, the closest fans can get to "Tekken X Street Fighter" is the new "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution," where fighter Akuma from the "Street Fighter" universe sets foot on the "Tekken" stage.
The character's arrival in "Tekken 7" could be Bandai Namco's way to test the waters as to how "Street Fighter" fighters can effectively be integrated in "Tekken 7."
Murray has offered no information on the progress of the development. In fact, he has shied away from providing details about how "Tekken X Street Fighter" will turn out. What's only confirmed is that Jin Kazama from "Tekken" and Ryu will be included in the roster.
Last year, Bandai Namco game director Katsuhiro Harada revealed to Famitsu (translation provided by Event Hubs) that they want to make the game's release a "surprise" so fans will feel that the game is well worth the long wait.
As far as gameplay is concerned, Harada teased that time that there was a lot in "Tekken X Street Fighter" that was already done.
"It might look like we've made no progress at all, but we actually decided the character lineup quite some time ago, and we've also completed the polygon models, the moves and the game system as well," Harada said.
