Despite the rumors claiming there may be no Surface Phone at all, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has bolstered the hope of Microsoft fans waiting for its next phone to arrive in the market.

There is no denying the Surface Phone has been one of the most highly anticipated and talked-about devices for more than a year already. However, without any official statement from Microsoft confirming its existence, the device remains a mystery to the public.

In a recent interview, though, Nadella has fueled the hope of those anticipating the Surface Phone. While he did not categorically say that the company is, indeed, releasing a mobile device to be called Surface Phone, he assured Microsoft fans that they can expect a new phone from the company, which may not really be a phone.

"When you say we'll make more phones, I'm sure we'll make more phones, but they will not look like the phones that are there today," Nadella shares in a podcast interview.

This is not the first time Nadella hinted that the next Microsoft phone, whether it is going to be called the Surface Phone or not, will be unlike any other phone in the market today. To recall, Microsoft's big boss also said in an interview last year that the next mobile phone device that the company is releasing will be an innovative device, a phone that is actually not a phone.

"We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today's market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device...we stopped doing things that were me-too and started doing things," he told the Australian Financial Review in November last year.

Is the innovative mobile device Nadella hinted the Surface Phone? If yes, how different will it be from the existing smartphones in the market today? When will it arrive?

Microsoft fans can only speculate for now.
