The CW's "Supernatural" welcomes the new year with several casting news.

In the second half of "Supernatural" season 11, fans will see the return of the beloved character Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver) in episode 16 alongside another returning character Rufus (Steven Williams).

Series executive producer Jeremy Carver confirmed the news with TVLine and shared the reason why Bobby and Rufus are returning in the first place.

"[Dean and Sam] are going to be investigating an old case that was once investigated by Bobby and Rufus," the executive producer said.

The old case that the Winchester brothers will investigate is believed to be from season 5.

"There's a lot of great throwbacks to things that happened" during the fifth season, such as "the wonderful relationship between the two. That's going to be a really neat episode."

Meanwhile, the 15th episode of the season will also feature another guest star.

A separate report from TVLine revealed that WWE champion Mike "The Miz" Mizanin will appear in the long-running fantasy thriller. He will portray the role of Shawn Harley, the young, up-and-coming professional wrestler whose temper matches his talent. The character wants to become the best wrestler fast, which is why he is willing to do anything to be able to reach the status that he wants to achieve.

But before Bobby, Rufus, and Shawn appear in "Supernatural" season 11, the midseason premiere will center on the Winchester brothers' attempts to defeat the Darkness.

The official synopsis for the midseason premiere episode titled "The Devil in the Details" reads:

"Now that he has Sam (Jared Padalecki) in the cage with him, Lucifer (guest star Mark Pellegrino) offers Sam a way out but it comes with a steep price. Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins) look into the angel smiting that could have killed Amara (guest star Emily Swallow)."

"Supernatural" season 11 returns to The CW on Wednesday, Jan. 20
