Fans of "Suits" were clearly heartbroken when Mike chose to cancel his much-awaited wedding with Rachel at the end of season 5 to serve his time in prison. But Patrick J. Adams has revealed that there was supposed to be a different story detail before "Suits" season 6 premieres next month.

"It was a wedding until the day before," the actor who portrays the role of Mike in the series told E! News. "In the original script we were getting married, and all of us we're kind of like...it just felt a little cheesy to me, when we were all reading it."

Adams further explained that they were actually prepared to do the original storyline where Mike would get married to Rachel (Meghan Markle) before he went to prison.

"But everybody was ready to do it, and I just thought, this is so much in an episode. Like, I'm going to get married and I'm going to go to jail, it just felt like we were packing it all in, the actor said.

According to Adams, showrunner Aaron Korsh immediately decided to change the plot of the season 5 finale when he heard several people on the set talking about their reaction to the story. Korsh immediately consulted him about the possibility of changing it, and he said that it would make the ending a lot more interesting.

"It just felt like it had more emotional weight and it felt like it made more sense for his character to say like, 'I can't do this to you.' It felt a lot more important to say no to the wedding. So it was a day before that we got the new pages that it wasn't a wedding," the actor added.

Meanwhile, speculations claim that Mike and Rachel's colleague Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) will finally start a romantic relationship when "Suits" season 6 premieres. According to reports, Harvey will feel a pang of jealousy after learning about Donna's relationship with Stephen Huntley (Max Beesley). Will this prompt him to finally confess his feelings for his former secretary?

The premiere episode of "Suits" season 6 will air on USA Network on Wednesday, July 13.
