The third season of Netflix's hit series "Stranger Things" is now in development, although the major details about its plotline and new characters are being kept under wraps. Nevertheless, a bit of information was able to leak into the internet, suggesting that the fans will get to see a new player in the show.

It appears that "Stranger Things" season 3 will introduce a new character, which could be the producers' way of keeping the show from becoming stale. Variety reported that Maya Hawke will portray a still unnamed character in the upcoming chapter. For now, Hawke's character is only described as an "alternative girl" who is seeking some thrill in the quiet town of Hawkins. Unfortunately for her, she will be surprised that Hawkins is more than the boring place that she thinks. It can be recalled that "Stranger Things" also added a new kid in town, Max (Sadie Sink), back in season 2.

Meanwhile, an already existing character in "Stranger Things" will get to play a bigger role in season 3. The 11-year-old actress Priah Ferguson, who plays Lucas Sinclair's (Caleb McLaughlin) little sister Erica, has been promoted to a recurring guest star. This means that the viewers will see Erica more often, and she will probably have an important mission to do in Hawkins this time around.

As reported by Deadline, Erica and her mysterious "army of friends" will find themselves involved in a new threat in Hawkins. She could still be seen trying to bug his brother at times, but in "Stranger Things" season 3, Erica will also have the chance to become the town's hero.

Netflix has yet to announce a definite release date for "Stranger Things" season 3. Given that the production is ongoing, there could be at least two years before the new season hits the streaming platform. Actor David Harbour, who plays Hawkins' Chief Hopper, revealed in an interview that season 3 is not expected to be out until 2019.
