Disney Interactive Studios' upcoming mobile game "Star Wars: Uprising" finally has a release date. Game developer Kabam recently revealed that the free-to-play action role-playing game will be available for Android and iOS devices starting Thursday, Sept. 10.

Patterned after the action sequences of the "Diablo" franchise, players will be allowed to attack the game's villains and sequester their loot to gain more power and give them the chance to level up in their missions. They can also come up with their own customized avatars and purchase skills and upgrades all throughout the game in order to help them in winning the battles.

Kabam senior director of design Daniel Erickson recently spoke to Mashable to discuss the game. According to Erickson, "Star Wars: Uprising" showcases numerous seeds that will preview the events that will happen in the later installments in the "Star Wars" franchise.

The events in "Star Wars: Uprising" reportedly takes place after "Return of the Jedi," and it is set in the Anoat Sector where Hoth and the Cloud City are located. Its plot will officially be a part of the latest "Star Wars" cannon.

Erickson explained, "For [the first chapter] of Uprising, we have a fully secluded sector. During chapter one, the people of the Anoat sector are not aware of the Emperor's death. That gives us a chance to go back and sort of cherry pick all the little bits and pieces from the EU that were really interesting.

"And we're getting to recanonize those things. So we're actually getting to take those, go through the story team with Lucasfilm, really figure out how they fit into the world and how it's evolving now."

At the moment, Kabam and Disney Interactive Studios are offering exclusive "Star Wars: Uprising" items like the Stormtrooper Helmet for free for those who want to pre-register in the game before its official launch. To avail this, players must log in to the game's official website
