Disney has released the full trailer for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" Monday night, leaving more burning questions that will not be answered until the film premieres this Christmas. Will Kylo (Adam Driver) kill Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher)? Will Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) finally get her revenge on Finn? What is Luke (Mark Hamill) so afraid of? But, the most significant query that has fans freaking out is whether Rey (Daisy Ridley) would turn to the dark side or not.
Fans have long suspected that Ridley's character, which demonstrably has both light and darkness, will be crucial to bringing balance to the Force.Thus, like many others, she will likely also feel the pull to the Dark Side.
While she was held captive on Starkiller base in the previous installment, Kylo even tried to recruit her. Thankfully, Rey had some good left in her and eventually defeated him. But many are worried that this may no longer be the case in Episode VIII.
Bustle noted that there were subtle hints throughout the video that Rey had delved deeper into the nature of the Dark Side. For one, her choice of attire seemingly darkened, especially compared to her wardrobe in "The Force Awakens," which mostly consisted of ivory and beige clothes.
The lighting and imagery surrounding her reportedly looked conflicted as well. In the trailer, she is seen facing a turbulent sea or at a training session on the edge of a cliff. These suggest that she might find herself in some flux in the next film.
However, the most telling clue would be the closing part of the trailer. Rey comes face to face with Kylo, who extends his hand to the young Jakku scavenger as she begs, "I need someone to show me my place in all this." By the look in her eyes, she seems to be considering his offer.
However, according to CBR, that may merely be a misdirection to confuse viewers, mainly since the shot does not contain the two of them. The goal of trailers is not to give away any significant details that would spoil the whole film. In fact, it's the opposite: it is sprinkled with Red Herrings and cleverly edited. This could be the case in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."
Whichever direction the film is going, fans still have over two months to find out. The Rian Johnson film arrives Dec. 15. Check out the official trailer below.
