Sony has yet to confirm the latest lineup of Xperia XZ smartphones coming this year; however, recent reports suggest that more than one model from the Z series will arrive in the next few weeks. One of these will be the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, the info having been spilled recently by a carrier company.
As reported by Phone Arena, a carrier firm named Three Ireland revealed on Twitter that the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is among the new set of Xperia handsets to hit the shelves soon. A customer sent a tweet to the company, asking about the available Sony Xperia handsets in the coming months, to which Three Ireland replied that instead of the Sony Xperia XA2, the XZ2 Compact smartphone will be put on sale.
The public has already been expecting that the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will be the one presented at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 later this February. However, with the information leak that the Xperia XZ Compact can be expected soon, there might be more than two brand-new XZ handsets to be unveiled in the tech expo. To recall, Sony has already showcased the new Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last month, and it is likely that more high-end smartphones will be revealed in the upcoming tech conventions, including the MWC.
Interestingly, Three Island's tweet confirming that a special Sony Xperia XZ2 smartphone is arriving soon has been deleted. It is possible that the company realized that Sony has not yet announced the existence of the Xperia XZ2 Compact, and it should not have mentioned the device's availability in the market at this point.
Regarding the specs of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, it is expected to share the same features with its predecessor, the 2017 Sony Xperia XZ1. The handset could have a 1,080p screen resolution with a display size of to 5.2 inches. On the other hand, the larger Xperia XZ2 Pro variant could sport a 5.7-inch display with potential 4K resolution. Both Xperia XZ2 devices are likely to boast Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 845.
