Sony rolls out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to select variants of Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow has officially found its way to more Sony Xperia handsets. This time, Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact are getting the sweet goods, following a Marshmallow beta program conducted by Sony on the same handsets.

That being said, specific models of these Sony Xperia smartphones involved in the testing will be the only ones getting a taste of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, at least for the time being.

These include the D6503 model of the Sony Xperia Z2, the D6603 variant of the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact with the model number D5803.

There's no word as to when the other variants of the Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact will receive Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, but Xperia Blog reports that it won't be long before the software reaches more models.

As usual, users of these variants can always check the availability of the update manually by going to the Settings of their handsets. The abovementioned site believes that Sony is releasing Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow first to the handsets included in the beta versions in order to fire up a "timely" public rollout without a hitch.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow headed to the Xperia trio has the build number 23.5.A.0.570, which is the same one the latest of the beta version of the software comes with. The build packs in the February security patch.

The update also brings the Camera 2.0.0 user interface to the Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact as seen in the Sony Xperia Z5. With it, users can now switch between camera modes with a swipe and adjust brightness and other modes real-time with sliders.
