Maddie Brown revealed the difficult time she went through while giving birth to her first child in the latest episode of the TLC reality television series "Sister Wives." Even though her labor was long and painful, Maddie chose to give birth at home without an epidural so she could be surrounded by her family.
The March 11 episode of "Sister Wives" showed the excitement surrounding the birth of Maddie's child. Not only was the baby going to be Maddie's first, but he would also be her parents' first grandchild. However, even though the family was excited, they were also rattled by and sympathetic to the long and difficult labor that Maddie had to go through.
"Sister Wives" follows the story of a polygamist family in Utah, headed by patriarch Kody Brown. He has four wives: Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn.
Maddie also wanted to have a water birth at home like Robyn, Kody's fourth wife, who had her youngest child at home. Maddie thought that since she wanted to give birth at home, a water birth might make the pain manageable. Thus, Maddie began to sit in a tub in the bathroom as her contractions got closer and closer together.
However, it seemed that Maddie had a rough time giving birth. She was in labor for 72 hours, which had her family worried. Kody in particular was concerned that Maddie's pain and discomfort might get worse as she got closer and closer to active labor.
Maddie's mother Janelle also brought in Christine, one of Kody's other wives, who had been like a mother figure to Maddie during her childhood.
Janelle said that Maddie and her other children's close relationship with Christine never bothered her. Christine, according to Janelle, was there for the children during a time in their lives when Janelle was busy at work. Thus, she never begrudged her children a close relationship with Christine.
Christine, meanwhile, expressed her sympathies for Maddie, whom Christine said looked very exhausted. The former also expressed how difficult it was for her that Maddie took such good care of herself during her pregnancy, only to experience such a long and exhausting labor.
As active labor began, it seemed that things did indeed get worse for Maddie. Caleb said that she was in a lot of pain, and Kody also expressed that he suddenly realized the danger his daughter was in.
However, everything did turn out fine in the end. The show's episodes are filmed almost a year before they are aired, and its fans have probably already seen on social media that Maddie gave birth to her son, Axel, on May 20 of last year.
