After being silent about the plot of the upcoming season of "Sherlock," series co-creator Steven Moffat finally revealed several pieces of information that will excite fans once the hit British crime drama returns for season 4.

According to Moffat, "There are some answers coming to questions nobody has asked. We're very exultant about a little thing we've set up that no one is talking about."

However, Moffat admitted during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that they are still in the early development of "Sherlock" season 4, and the scripts are not written yet. But the series co-creator said that the next season of the contemporary TV adaptation of the classic Sherlock Holmes detective story written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle will be very different from the earlier seasons.

"[Season 4] is going to be ... I suppose you'd say ... consequences," Moffat revealed. "It's consequences. Chickens come to roost. It's dark in some ways — obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that — but there's a sense of things ... coming back to bite you."

He also mentioned that the new season will feature really funny and thrilling sequences during several scenes, while the others will show several frightening and eerie sequences.

Furthermore, he said that there are no confirmed guest stars yet for season 4. He and the other half of the "Sherlock" creative team, co-creator Mark Gatiss, believe that they already found the right cast for the show. Fans would certainly agree that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are the perfect stars to portray the roles of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively.

Meanwhile, website Den of Geek reported one of the most frequent speculations that is going around online. According to rumors, Amanda Abbington's character Mary Watson will probably die this season. Still, no one has confirmed the reports yet.

There is no official release date revealed for "Sherlock" season 4 as of this time, but it is expected to air sometime in early 2016 following the Christmas special to be aired this December.
