'Sherlock' season 4 news and updates: Christmas Special filming begins!

After a very long wait, "Sherlock" fans will finally have a first glimpse of the stand-alone Christmas episode after leaked photos of the filming were posted online.

The filming of the Victorian-themed Christmas episode brings together Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes), Martin Freeman (Dr. John Watson), and the other characters to produce an installment that will be released before the start of season 4. According to Latin Post, the production for the period detective series will be held at the Coston Hall located in Briston, England, as well as other locations all over the country.

The highly-anticipated Christmas Special will be shown on Dec. 25.

But before that happens, fans of the hit BBC series can have the chance to gather together in a fan convention that is scheduled sometime in the second quarter of the year. The three-day event, dubbed as "Sherlocked," is expected to give fans their fill of all things related to the show.

The production team behind the epic series will be present in the event to talk about their plans for "Sherlock." But fans are more excited to know that the big stars of the series will grace the event as well, including its lead star Benedict Cumberbatch. Other key people who are confirmed to be in attendance in the event include series co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis, who also portrays the role of the detective's brother Mycroft. However, there is no news yet if Martin Freeman will join them.

Some of the activities that are lined up for the fan convention include autograph signing and question-and-answer portions.

Radio Times initially reported that the Sherlock fan convention event was originally scheduled last year, but it did not push through since the event organizers had little time to prepare for it.

"Sherlock" season 4 is expected to start filming sometime in late 2015, and will probably air on BBC One in the second half of 2016.
