As DC's "Shazam!" gears up for production, the movie is slowly rounding out its ever-growing cast. The latest one to board the superhero film is Cooper Andrews. His character has not been specified, but he will reportedly play the foster parent at the group home where Billy Batson lives.
Andrews is a familiar face among TV audiences. He portrayed the recurring character Yo-Yo Engberk in the first three seasons of AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire" and starred in Sundance TV's "Red Road," opposite "Aquaman" star Jason Momoa. He currently plays Jerry in "The Walking Dead," a member of the Kingdom who serves as Ezekiel's (Khary Payton) steward. His film credits are a bit limited, and "Shazam!" is likely his biggest cinematic appearance yet.
Rosa and Victor Vasquez are Billy Batson and the other kids' foster parents in the "New 52" Shazam storyline. According to Cinema Blend, they are not directly involved in Billy's first adventure as a superhero, but DC may expand their roles in the upcoming film.
Andrew's casting comes after Grace Fulton's. As reported previously, both the "Annabelle: Creation" actress and "Shazam!" director David F. Sandberg officially confirmed her involvement in the film. Her role was not disclosed as well, although she is speculated to be Mary Batson, Billy Batson's twin sister.
Both Fulton and Andrews join Asher Angel who was cast as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Batson's adult alter-ego Shazam, and Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman. While not confirmed, Mark Strong is also rumored to star as Doctor Sivana, an evil genius and archenemy of Shazam who was introduced opposite the superhero in the pages of Whiz Comics back in 1940.
The cast will reportedly start shooting at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada early next year. "Shazam!" has no release date yet. However, Sandberg expects the public will get to see it by April 2019.
