A modern re-imagining of, what some call one of 90s' most terrible games, "Shaq Fu", starring former NBA Star Shaquille O'Neal, is due to come out on game stands worldwide this coming spring and will be made available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch One.

Big Deez Productions and Saber Interactive, primary developers of the 2D fighting game's modern retelling, announced recently that the reboot will see its outing sometime this year in spring.

"Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn" is considered by many to be the sequel to the less than stellar kung fu fighting game of the last generation that is "Shaq Fu."

Although that is the case, fans are still up for giving the game a second chance at gaming life.

In 2014, developers of the game started a crowdfunding page on Indiegogo with a target budget of $450, 000. And not long after, they were able to amass more than the initial budget with over a thousand fans backing the intended reboot.

As a bonus, the team behind the game also dropped its trailer the same day the game was announced to be releasing this year.

Although it has been obvious that many are looking forward to the remake, Engadget tells fans that the preview for the new "2.5D game," which consists of a "side-scrolling beat-em-up" gameplay, is not quite impressive.

But despite this criticism, the games overall "goofy-vibe" and "colorful" backdrops could potentially be its saving grace.

Originally, the revival game was set for a release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. But with new-generation consoles on the market, the outing was readjusted to cater to the latest gaming platforms.

Also, Saber Interactive confirmed that users who purchased the game "NBA Playgrounds" for the Switch One before June 10, 2017 will be granted a free digital copy of "Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn."
