Netflix is still mum about the future of the sci-fi web drama "Sense8," but fans of the show are already worried that the entertainment streaming service provider will not order a second season.

The series was released for streaming on June 5. It  focuses on the lives of eight strangers from different places worldwide who share the same birthday, Aug. 8. These people, the Sense8s, include: a police officer from Chicago named Will (Brian J. Smith); Icelandic DJ Riley (Tuppence Middleton); Nairobian matatu van driver Capheus (Aml Ameen); rich man's daughter Sun Bak (Bae Doona) from South Korea; closeted actor Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre) from Spain; engaged Indian pharmacist Kala (Tina Desai) who is arranged to marry a man that she does not love; German locksmith Wolfgang (Max Riemelt); and San Francisco native transwoman Nomi (Jamie Clayton).

In season 1, the individuals simultaneously had a vision of the violent death of a woman named Angelica (Daryl Hannah). They suddenly found themselves capable of sensing, communicating, and understanding each other mentally and emotionally, and they must find a way to protect each other from their nemesis called Whispers (Terrence Mann). The season ended with a cliffhanger with Riley having been captured by the Whispers. Only Will and the rest of the Sense8s can save her.

The unique plot of the series, as well as its timely theme which highlights the social, sexual, and racial diversity of the characters, attracted numerous fans online despite the negative reviews from critics. Viewers even launched a Twitter campaign on July 7 with the hashtag #RenewSense8 to get the attention of the Netflix bosses to call for a season 2. It became a trending topic on Tumblr at the same time.

Series co-creator J. Michael Straczynski earlier revealed that they already have a full five-year plan for the series.

"Before we started this, we knew we wanted to do a prolonged story. I love five-year arcs, so we have a five-year arc worked out for this thing. We know what all of the seasons are going to be," Straczynski told IndieWire in June.

However, the online streaming service provider is still keeping their silence regarding the renewal or cancellation of the Web series.
