MTV remains mum about the renewal of "Scream" for season 3, but the network already dropped a teaser for the show's Halloween special.

In the sneak peek released by the network on Twitter, one of the scenes in the show's Halloween special showed that Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini) is still serving his time in prison after it was revealed at the end of season 2 that he is the Lakewood Slasher, who killed a lot of victims in Lakewood.

But seeing Kieran behind bars doesn't mean that the masked killer will stop haunting Lakewood. In the teaser, Kieran saw another Ghostface on top of his prison cell.

It can be remembered that, at the end of season 2, Kieran received a phone call in prison using Ghostface's voice saying, "Hello Kieran. Who told you, you could wear my mask?" This could mean that the original Lakewood Slasher Brandon James is alive and furious about someone else using his identity to kill more people.

Showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register told TVLine that they cannot divulge more information about Kieran and the future of the series after season 2, but they revealed that they know the reason why he received the phone call in the second season finale. "It's tied into the complete history and fabric of the town, we can say that," Gans said.

SpoilerTV, on the other hand, revealed the synopsis for the two-hour Halloween special episode of "Scream" on MTV. According to the synopsis, "8 months after Kieran's arrest, Emma (Willa Fitzgerald) is struggling to focus on her future. Noah (John Karna) and Stavo (Santiago Segura) have combined forces to create a best-selling graphic novel based on the Kieran Wilcox murders and Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) is in a new relationship."

The special Halloween episode of MTV's "Scream" is slated to air on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 10 p.m. ET.
