According to the latest reports, Samsung is currently developing the next-generation of its Gear S line, which will be unveiled later this year. The South Korean tech firm announced the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic almost two years ago, and some people believe that the arrival of new Gear S4 smartwatch is already overdue.
It was tipped by Sam Mobile that the Samsung Gear S4 is on its way to the market in 2018. This is due to a recent hardware listing posted on the website, which describes a new smartwatch with model number SM-R800. The listing does not indicate whether the smartwatch will be called the Gear S4 or not, but the timing of the report suggests that the device is indeed the Gear S3 successor.
Moreover, the model number of the suspected Samsung Gear S4 follows those of the previous wearables from the Gear S lineup. To note, the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Frontier editions come with the numbers SM-R770 and SM-R760, respectively.
Regarding the features of the Samsung Gear S4, the upcoming wearable is believed to include improved internal hardware and will focus more on health and fitness tracking features. Samsung's very own S Health service app is expected to get enhanced sleep monitoring system.
Interestingly, a separate report suggests that the Gear S4 will come with a special blood pressure monitoring feature. A leaked patent reveals that the Gear S smartwatch will use a special non-invasive method of measuring the blood pressure, without having to add heavy components to the actual device.
Samsung has yet to confirm the details surrounding its Gear S lineup, although it is speculated that the new Gear S4 smartwatch will arrive in the third or last last quarter of 2018. The previous fitness trackers and wearables launched by the company, the Gear S3 and last year's Gear Sport, were announced at the annual IFA conference, and it is likely that the Samsung Gear S4 will make an appearance on the same event this year.
