Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini release date, specs news 2018: Benchmark listing reveals smaller version powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 last February. However, the latest word from the rumor mill suggests that the Galaxy S series will have another member to arrive very soon. A recent benchmark listing reveals that a possible Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini could hit the market in the coming months, boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with 4GB of RAM.

A product listing of a mystery Samsung device was recently uploaded on Geekbench. The particular tech goes by the model number SM-G8750, and while there are no hints about the device's name, it is highly speculated to be the Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini.

There have been rumors that the South Korean tech firm will bring back the mini variant of its S series flagship this year, and the Geekbench listing could serve as proof.

The benchmark listing shows the supposed Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset from Qualcomm, which is clocked at 1.84GHz speed. The Snapdragon 660 processor goes with 4GB of RAM.

Based on this information, the Galaxy S9 Mini will not necessarily be a high-end device like the original S9. At best, the S9 Mini will be more like a mid-range gadget, but still impressive nonetheless with its single-core and multi-core benchmark scores of 1,619 and 5,955, respectively.

Of course, these figures are far from the benchmark scores obtained by the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, with single-core score of 2,422 and multi-core score of 8,351, Tech Radar reported.

There has not been a mini handset from Samsung since the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, which sports a 4.5-inch display. The original Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch display, so it is possible that the Galaxy S9 Mini will be only a few inches smaller than the original S9.

Although, the public should not fully expect that the Samsung mini device spotted on Geekbench is the Galaxy S9 Mini, as it could turn out to be another mid-range handset from the company. Instead of releasing smaller and watered-down versions of its Galaxy S devices, Samsung could opt to launch a new mid-tier smartphone, or perhaps a new entry to its Galaxy A series.
