It appears that Samsung will further expand its Galaxy J series lineup this year with the addition of the 2018 Galaxy J8 smartphone. The South Korean tech giant has yet to confirm its plans for the low-tier devices this year, although a recent benchmark listing suggests that the Samsung Galaxy J8 2018 will arrive soon, running the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box.
The latest Geekbench listing for a Samsung handset with model number SM-J800FN reveals that it will be powered by Exynos 7870 chipset, coupled with a Mali-T830 graphics processing unit (GPU). This mobile process is not bad for a low-tier phone, given that the Exynos 7870 chip garnered a score of 728 points in the single-core test, and 3,683 points in the multi-core test. The Exynos 7870 is built on the 14nm manufacturing process, boasting eight Cortex-A53 cores that comprise the entire central processing unit (CPU) with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz.
It is also interesting to note that the Samsung Galaxy J8 2018 Geekbench listing shows that it will be preinstalled with the Android 8.0 Oreo version. Another rumored low-tier handset, the Galaxy J6, is also tipped to run the Android Oreo OS upon its launch. The Galaxy J8 2018 specs are still hedged higher, with a bigger 3 GB random-access memory (RAM) compared with the Galaxy J6's 2 GB.
While the benchmark listing lacks information regarding the smartphone's camera features, the Samsung Galaxy J8 2018's Exynos processor is said to be capable of supporting a dual-lens camera setup. However, given that the handset belongs to the company's low-tier collection, it is quite unlikely for the Galaxy J8 to boast such advanced camera technology.
The Samsung Galaxy J8 2018 is expected to be unveiled later this year, along with the other new J-series smartphones such as the Galaxy J3, J5, J6 and J7. More details will be revealed in the coming months as the company focuses on its low-tier and mid-tier collections after showcasing its latest flagship handsets, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018.
