'Riverdale' season 2 spoilers: Madelaine Petsch teases 'softer' Cheryl and her 'more amplified' wardrobe

A week before "Riverdale" returns to The CW, Madelaine Petsch spilled a few tidbits on what is ahead for her character, Cheryl Blossom, in the upcoming second season.

Talking to Teen Vogue, the 23-actress dished that there will be more of Cheryl this season. But unlike in the past runs where her character was portrayed as antagonistic toward the others, she will be "softer" this time.

"Cheryl becomes a lot softer on camera this season," Petsch said. "The breaks, the cracks in her façade. The walls come down in very interesting ways." Cheryl may have been strong and fiery before, but Petsch revealed she will be a "vulnerable little girl" in the first six episodes of the sophomore run.

Petsch also teased a "more amplified" wardrobe for Cheryl in season 2. Riverdale High's Queen Bee notably wore red in the previous run. As Petsch explained, the color was part of the Blossom family, so her parents must have enforced it on her.

But now, Clifford (Barclay Hope) is gone, and Cheryl is not going to take any more orders from her mom, Penelope (Nathalie Bott), not even when it comes to her outfits. Although she will still be wearing red in season 2, Cheryl will tailor her outfits for herself and not for her family.

Petsch teased it would be very interesting to see. Apparently, the way she dresses up and style herself tell the biggest story of all. "It's small details like that that we're really fine-tuning in season two, which I'm really excited about," she said.

As Entertainment Weekly recalled, the Blossom heiress had a rough first season. Not only did she discover that their real family business is drug smuggling, but she also witnessed her father hanging himself. All these had taken a toll on her and made her suicidal.

In the finale, Cheryl attempted to drown herself in the frozen river where her brother died in order to be with him. Thankfully, she survived and that crucial moment somehow became the baptism of her new self.

"Riverdale" season 2 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
