'Riverdale' season 2 spoilers: Lili Reinhart teases more terrifying antics from Dark Betty in next episodes

Lili Reinhart portrays Betty Cooper in "Riverdale." The CW

"Riverdale" season 2 promised to be much darker than the first run, and the past episodes have just proved it. There is a serial killer on the loose, Archie has (KJ Apa) a gun, and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is now a Serpent. However, probably the most thrilling element is the viciousness that randomly comes from Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart).

In the first season of the CW drama, fans got to see the dark side of Betty first when she nearly boiled Chuck Clayton (Jordan Calloway) alive in a hot tub. Even though she did not have her black wig on, that version of Betty appeared once again in the recent episode, "Chapter Fifteen: Nighthawks."

As recalled, Betty confronted frenemy Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) in the high school locker room, threatening to leak the security footage of her father shooting Jason (Trevor Stines) if she will not testify on behalf of FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich). This earned her the "stone-cold b*tch" title from the surviving Blossom twin.

It turns out the blackmail incident was just a warm-up for Dark Betty's return. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Reinhart teased that there will be more of Betty's savage side throughout the season.

"I don't necessarily want to call this the return of Dark Betty just yet because of how dark she gets in the future," she told the publication. Apparently, the confrontation was only Betty being "protective" and "assertive" for Juggy and her friends.

Jughead's father is facing a lengthy prison sentence for his involvement in Jason's murder. According to the actress, Betty is aware Jughead may never see him again if Cheryl will not help alleviate FP's situation. As she called it, the situation was just more of "Betty did what she had to do."

"That's just how important that situation is to her — she'd rather be a b*tch and threaten Cheryl than sit back and do nothing."

The actress admitted the blackmail was a horrible thing to do, but that is just nothing compared to the actions of the real dark Betty. When it comes to the grim version of her character, she says it is more of letting out the side of Betty that she needs to set free.

She did not reveal any more specifics, so fans will have to tune in to "Riverdale" for Betty's more terrifying antics.

The second season airs Wednesdays, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
