'Rick and Morty' Season 4 release date news: Special 'Dungeons and Dragons' crossover episode to arrive ahead of new season

It looks like the deal has not been ironed out between "Rick and Morty" executive producers and the Adult Swim network to finalize the cartoon series' fourth season. Nevertheless, the fans still have more things to look forward to before the arrival of season 4, including a possible crossover event with "Dungeons and Dragons."

As reported by Slash Film, a new four-issue comic series from IDW Publishing can be expected by the fans this summer, which will feature the popular duo of Rick and his grandson, Morty, as they explore the fantasy world of "Dungeons and Dragons."

It was confirmed at last week's C2E2 convention in Chicago that the special comic series for the "Rick and Morty" and "Dungeons and Dragons" crossover will be out this August. It will be created by writers Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Zub and Troy Little, the Eisner-nominated artist behind the popular works such as "Fear" and "Loathing in Las Vegas."

As for the possible storyline of the upcoming "Rick and Morty" crossover, it appears that Morty will be interested to know more from Rick about "Dungeons and Dragons," which is a popular video game among his peers at school. Of course, Rick could not say no to his grandson and introduce him to this new world, but trouble is expected to ensue after this.

After the crossover comic book series, "Rick and Morty" creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are likely to have more time for season 4.

Unfortunately, there are reports that the contract negotiations between the two and Adult Swim are not going very well. It is possible that the two camps still have an issue about the partition of shares, with Adult Swim's owner, Turner Broadcasting, turning down the proposal. With the expected huge profit coming out of season 4, both groups are likely to demand for bigger shares of the revenue, which is prolonging the process of renewing "Rick and Morty."
