"I think season 3 is—we're targeting around the end of this year... You guys do realize we're at the beginning of this year?" co-creator Dan Harmon said during the Magic City Comic Con.

For those who are uninitiated, one lucky fan gets the chance (via a contest on Omaze) to join the voice cast and be the voice of an alien overlord who will be eventually be killed off in "Rick and Morty" season 3.

Before the winning fan steps into the booth and "[taps] into your villainous side," they will get to hang out with the cast and tour the set. The contest was held earlier this year.

According to rumors, "Rick and Morty" season 3 will be darker although the humor will still be there, of course. The show is well-known and loved for being darkly humorous.

The latest speculations say that "Rick and Morty" season 3 will give a whole new meaning to breaking the fourth wall by making Rick realize he is a cartoon.

This is believed to be the secret theory that Harmon and co-creator Justin Roiland have in mind in putting "Rick and Morty" together.

Since the two aren't keen on revealing it at all, this will remain a mystery. Some media outlets believe that revealing it anyway this won't help the plot move forward.

This means that although Rick realizes what he is, the writers won't have him acknowledge this on "Rick and Morty" season 3 or any other season.

What is rumored to be explored, however, is the purported infinite number of universes in Rick's liver. "Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to premiere this October.
