Fans became extra excited when reports surfaced saying that the remastered version of "Halo 3: ODST" will be released for the Xbox One on Friday, but the official Halo Twitter account refuted such claims, saying that the listed date was only a "placeholder."

The alleged release date, which was first posted on Xbox.com before being pulled out, claimed that the remastered version of "Halo 3" will come out on May 29. The page also mentioned that the new version of "Halo 3 ODST" will be released for free for those who purchased "The Master Chief Collection" before Dec. 19 last year as the game developer's way of compensating for the major matchmaking issues found in the said game.

However, 343 Industries retracted the information, saying:

A placeholder release date for the ODST campaign for Halo: The Master Chief Collection was inadvertently listed on the Xbox Store. We continue final testing and will make an official announcement once our release date is determined, and apologize for any confusion."

However, the tweet failed to mention if the content will still come for free for those who ordered "The Master Chief Collection" last December.

"Halo 3: ODST" was first released as a first-person shooter game in 2009 as part of the highly successful "Halo" game franchise. It was originally developed by Bungie as a small side project that was planned to be distributed between the release of the complete "Halo 3" game and "Halo: Reach."

Aside from the remastered version of the "Halo 3: ODST" content, 343 Industries is also planning to release a new version of the "Halo 2" multiplayer map known as Relic. It is expected to be added to "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" this month, but the game developer has yet to announce its release date.

More information is expected to be unveiled by the game developer about the official release date of the remastered "Halo 3: ODST" in the coming days.
