Will "Reign" season 2 return from its winter hiatus with a big death scene? This is for certain as series showrunner Laurie McCarthy told E! News that someone from the French Court will die in one of the coming episodes.

"I would say there's a death of a very large character," McCarthy said.

However, the showrunner did not reveal any more information about the character who will meet their ultimate end. Because of this, speculations have started to circulate online.

Some fans are thinking that Claude will be the one to die, after her mother Catherine poisoned her last episode. Although she did not meet her demise instantly, there are talks saying that it's possible for the poison to have a slow, dragging effect.

Others say that Catherine will be the unlucky one since she keeps on seeing visions of the dead. When her dead twin daughters and the late King Henry appeared in her vision, fans began to think that maybe, they were already fetching her to join them in the afterlife.

But Narcisse can also be the character set to die in one of the upcoming episodes of "Reign" season 2. Although Francis decided that he would be more useful alive than dead, it's not impossible if Narcisse decides to end his own life right away.

The period drama series from The CW received a lot of negative reception when it aired the controversial rape scene before the midseason finale. Fans were not happy watching Mary being raped by a Protestant who wanted to avenge his son's death under Francis. Fans expressed their disappointment through Twitter, and even threatened the producers that they will stop watching the show because of the said episode.

McCarthy defended the season's plot, saying, "We were always going to treat the storyline with the respect and dignity and time it deserved, not just in our attention to detail, but in terms of service it and honoring it for the rest of the season."

"Reign" season 2B returns on The CW on Jan. 22.
